Are You Looking for a Chair Lift for Stairs?

July 23rd, 2023|

A chair lift for stairs is called a stairlift.  There are different types of stairlifts.  Straight stairlifts, curved stairlifts, and outdoor stairlifts.  A chairlift for stairs has great benefits besides for people who are having troubling traversing staircases.  We have had many clients tell us that their bodies are no longer tired out from physical exhaustion from ascending the stairs daily and that they now have the energy to do other activities, such as grocery shopping.  There are many alternatives to exercise instead of climbing staircases.  We have the chairlift for stairs with 4 colors to choose for the seat upholstery.  Call us 281-538-1215 and schedule your home evaluation.

Handicare, Prism Medical, Savaria

July 7th, 2023|

Due to poor quality assurance and a bit of intentional delays from Handicare, Prism Medical, and Savaria, we no longer offer any products they have to offer.  We no longer offer new parts to service existing equipment of Handicare, Prism Medical, or Savaria due to the improbability of ordered parts to arrive.  Due to poor management with Handicare, Prism Medical, and Savaria, we no longer have interest in mending a once reparable relationship.  Handicare is no longer what it used to be in it’s glory days.  We supported them for 15 years until it became impossible to deliver a quality product in a timely fashion that had actually gone through a quality assurance process before being shipped and delivered.  We discontinued offering their products in the first quarter of 2022.

If you require assistance with existing Handicare products that we sold to you in the past, we will be able to maintain your unit, rest assured.

We will not abandon our clients while we ensure all future products have a more reliable quality assurance from a reputable manufacturer, which we had tested for 5 years prior to making our decision in 2022.  Merits Health Products stairlifts have been proven to be more reliable than Handicare.  Not only do they have a very good quality assurance team, they also have the best chip boards.  We have not had an issue with the motherboard or motor on any units for over 6 years now.  Rest assured we love what we do and we want you to have the safest and most reliable stairlift available at the lowest price you can buy anywhere in the Greater Houston area.

Is it Chairlift or Stairlift?

July 7th, 2023|

There is a little bit of confusion when it  comes to stairlifts and talking to your doctor or insurance provider about them.  Many times when someone talks about a stairlift, they inadvertently mislabel it as chairlift.   This can cause confusion when speaking to insurance agents.  The most confusion occurs when agents are asked if “chairlifts” are covered by insurance.  An agent would say yes, naturally, because they have confused a stairlift with a lift chair, which is covered by most insurances, although a stairlift is not covered by common insurance plans.  A lift chair is a recliner that will lift a person to a standing position.  We offer lift chairs as well shipped directly to your home or delivered and set up for you if you need assistance.

How Much Does a Straight Stairlift Cost?

June 29th, 2023|

Greater Houston Stairlifts has the best price in the region.  On average, you can save $500 or more on your purchase of a straight stairlift.  In fact, we have a low price guarantee.  If anyone even matches our price, we will beat them by at least 5% of the cost.  We have held the lowest price in the Houston/Galveston area since 2007.  The only time our price has changed has been due to the increase in costs of shipping during 2021 and 2022.  Our price will remain the lowest while our service continues to remain the best.

Why is our prices and service the best you can find locally?  Because Greater Houston Stair Lifts is dedicated to stairlifts as our #1 priority.  This is what we do.  It’s like going to a certain tire company and getting the lowest price you can because they simply deal with tires and nothing else.  We have that same concept here at Greater Houston Stair Lifts.  Why would you choose to buy a stairlift from a company that prioritizes elevators?  They will be preoccupied when you need service.

At Greater Houston Stairlifts, every day is prioritized to stairlift installations and repairs.  People are rather surprised how fast our service is when their lift is in need of attention.  It is because that is all we do and is what we have been doing for the past 15 years.  We understand that having safe access to your stairs is absolutely essential.

Greater Houston Stair Lifts phone support 7 days a week including every holiday throughout the calendar year.    When it cannot be resolved, a technician is dispatched within a 24 hour period.   In most cases we can have your stairlift back running the same day or next day depending on the time you call.

In most cases we can install a straight stairlift for $3,200 or less for a standard installation.  Some of our competitors have quoted our clients over $7,000 for one straight stairlift unit.  These companies that charge this high are either entry level companies that do not know what they are doing, or they are simply taking advantage of people in need of a solution.   A straight stairlift should not cost that high even with all the “bells and whistles” such as the powered swivel seat or the folding hinged rail feature that can be an essential upgrade in some homes.

Outdoor units range at a higher cost because the stairlifts must be made to protect the unit from degrading outdoors, which requires galvanized components and powder coating.  The outdoor package is roughly an $800 – $1000 additional cost to the base price of a straight stairlift.

We only sell Rack & Pinion drive stairlift systems.  These types of systems are designed with solid steel components that provided consistent movement in both directions.  Other stairlifts available have different types of drive systems, such as cable drive, worm gear, and friction drive.  Each of the these systems proclaim to be a better system than rack & pinion but from a dealer standpoint they are inferior products.

The cable driven system requires more maintenance than the average user is able to perform, as the cable requires the tension to be corrected from time to time.  Cables tend to gain additional slack over time, causing the unit’s emergency stopping system to engage at the most inconvenient times.

The worm gear system main components are plastic, which is known to leech oils over time and degrade.  The worm rack sections are all held together by one compression screw at the top of the rail.  As the plastic worm rack leeches oils over time, the compression screw has to be replaced with longer screws.  If this maintenance is not performed, the worm gear can slip between each section of worm rack, causing the worm gear to force itself onto the next section of worm rack, causing unnecessary force on the motor, while the rider feels a hefty bump on each section.

Friction drive systems are also designed with their primary components as plastic material.  Not only does plastic leech oils over time, but the friction drive has FRICTION that shaves the plastic slowly over time.  The designers being aware of this, designed a chassis that is held together by springs in order to compress it over time to make up for the material loss.  Also these styles of systems are designed to use 4 motors versus a standard of 1.  The manufacturers believe this is good in case one of the motors fail, then you have 3 more to drive the stairlift.  As a dealer standpoint, Greater Houston Stair Lifts asks why the motors are failing in the first place?

If you have any questions about stairlifts don’t hesitate to call.  We will be happy to provide you with the information you need in order to make the right decision for you and your family.

Is a Stairlift a Tax Exempt Purchase?

June 19th, 2023|

The Pilot E603 Indoor Stairlift

The Pilot E603 Straight Stairlift

Yes!  Stairlifts are tax exempt with a prescription from your doctor.

The reasoning behind tax exemptions for such items is often rooted in promoting accessibility and improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Governments recognize the importance of facilitating access to essential equipment and home modifications that can enhance independence, mobility, and overall well-being. By offering tax exemptions, authorities aim to alleviate the financial burden associated with these necessary items, making them more accessible to those who need them.

To obtain accurate and up-to-date information about the tax exemption status of stairlifts in Texas, consult the official resources provided by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
